The picturesque medieval town of Motovun lies in the northwest part of central Istria high up on a hill (177m) overlooking the valley of the river Mirna.

Motovun is one of the most well preserved medieval towns in all of Istria. The centre of Motovun was built as a fortress surrounded by thick stone walls which protected the city from intruders.
