Cultural tourism is defined as travel persons outside the residence with a view to the search for new experiences and experiences that meet their cultural needs. Cultural tourism also includes visits to cultural and historical sites in the distant and recent history of the tourist destinations, museums and galleries, churches, musical and theatrical events and performances, music and, more recently and visits to concerts of pop culture. The population deals with wine vine growth, agriculture, olive growing, fishing and ship building, and they also have a long history of the touristy and sailing tradition.
A rich touristy tradition dates since the ancient roman times and the medieval period. A proof to that are the rustic villas and rural possessions in the neighbourhood. In the 1911 was built the first Hotel in Jelsa - Jadran, while in the 1913 was published the first tourist guide of Jelsa. At the end of the 60's in the XX century it comes to a fast develop of the touristy sector after the construction of many accommodation and hospitality buildings.
Nowadays you can find the accommodation in campings, hotels and private houses. In restaurants and taverns you can taste the fish menus and the famous wines of Hvar.
