Between Split and Sibenik, surrounded by seven islands, located on a peninsula that once were island, is situated Primosten.
It is one of the most attractive destinations on the Adriatic coast with a typical picturesque look of a fishing town. Its history under the name of Primosten began in the year 1564 when it mentioned in some documents, befor this years it was known under the name of Capusta Cista. Primosten was an island in the beginning. The town walls with towers were built to protect the town from the Turkish invasion while a sliding bridge enabled the connection with the main land. After that was built a pier and Primosten became a peninsula. The name Primosten is connected exactly with the construction of the embankment, namely the name of the town was given according to the Croatian verb "primostoti" which means built a bridge.
